Overview
Position in the Chemistry R&D, part of the Clinical Sequencing Division (CSD) of our end-client’s organization, located in South San Francisco. As a Scientist in the Clinical Sequencing Division (CSD) of, you will be working on Ion Torrent Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology. NGS is increasingly becoming the technology of choice in the research and clinical settings for a wide variety of applications such as companion diagnostics for cancer treatment, prenatal screening and rare disease diagnostics.
In this role, you will be part of a high performance, cross-disciplinary team developing new technologies for the next generation of our sequencing platforms working at the interface of chemistry, biology, material science and lab automation.
Job Responsibilities
Perform sequencing experiments on Ion platforms for testing of new candidates of DNA delivery vehicles and functionalized chip surfaces
Adapt and modify existing automation instrument software for newer applications
Analyze data, derive conclusions, document findings, write SOPs and prepare reports for sharing within and between R&D groups
Help develop new analytical tools and assays as needed
Learn new Ion platforms and become conversant in operating & troubleshooting them
Maintain a detailed and organized lab notebook
Interact within Chemistry R&D group as well as with other collaborating R&D groups
Minimum Requirements (MUST have to be considered)
Minimum 1 to 2 years current hands-on experience in an advanced research lab
Good knowledge of DNA amplification and sequencing technologies is desirable
Basic proficiency in Python or similar lab automation program
Proficiency in statistical data analysis. Knowledge in database query (SQL, R, etc.) is desirable
Experience in fluorescence microscopy & other imaging methods
Moderate to intensive pipetting and long continuous periods in the lab doing experiments

Required Education
- BS or MS in Bioengineering, Chemical engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry or equivalent
