Job Title: Laboratory Technician

Work Hours: 8am – 5pm Monday - Friday

Overview:

Participate in planning experiments and evaluating/interpreting test results utilizing detailed knowledge of research and/or Anatomical Pathology laboratory procedures and practices. Perform quality assurance testing as required and train lab technicians as needed. Operate, maintain and troubleshoot delicate computerized laboratory equipment. Use Microtome, Cryostat, Microscope, CO2 incubators, a laminar flow hood, and autoclave to perform duties, including: processing and preparation of tissue and cytology samples, preparation of media and tissue culture reagents; sterilization and preparation of tissue culture equipment; handling cultures; and propagation, maintenance and special manipulations of cell lines. Perform computerized data entry of all work performed and generate reports as required.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to prepare slides and/or specimens for microscopy using established protocol techniques.

  • Requires basic use of scientific methods, procedures and techniques gained through previous training and experience.

  • Histology/Cytology background required.

  • Basic understanding of theory behind experiments and applies basic analytical skills to implement projects.

  • Creativity and flexibility is required.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • A.S. or equivalent, in biological sciences, chemistry, or physics with 3 years of relative experience.

  • Excellent oral, written and technical communication skills.

  • Record maintenance skills required.
