Senior Cloud Solution Architect

As a Senior Cloud Solution Architect you will own and drive enterprise architecture. This role requires you to be a hands-on analyst, technologist, and architect who has broad technical experience in developing and delivering enterprise solutions on cloud platforms. You will have responsibility to develop and maintain an overall architecture for solutions; ensuring the completeness of the architecture, in terms of adequately addressing all stakeholders needs; and the integrity of the architecture, in terms of connecting all the various views to each other, satisfactorily reconciling the conflicting concerns of different stakeholders, and showing the trade-offs made in so doing.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead discussions evaluating business and technical concepts to determine feasibility, effort and timeframe

  • Lead in the definition of the architectural and technical roadmaps and drive the realization

  • Identification and analysis of system requirements and specifications for security, privacy, scalability, availability, etc

  • Work as part of a cross-functional global team to architect a cloud platform

  • Communication and collaboration with internal teams and with teams across Medtronic, both technical and non-technical

  • Work alongside development teams, assisting with the implementation, supporting integration and QA in driving towards successful deployment

  • Establishes standards and guidelines for the design and development, tuning, deployment and maintenance of enterprise assets

  • Ability to translate broader business initiatives into clear architecture objectives that align appropriately with other groups for efficient, coordinated action

  • Willingness and capability to make design trade-off decisions that align with business priorities/needs (e.g. trade-off between future extensibility v/s time to market)

  • Participates in enterprise solution security requirements gathering, development, and implementation

  • Draws conclusions and effectively communicates findings with both technical and non-technical team members, providing active leadership skills across project team and the business community

  • Defines, describes, diagrams and documents the role and interaction of the high-level technological and human components that combine to provide cost effective and innovative solutions to meet evolving business needs

  • Promotes, guides and governs good architectural practice through the application of well-defined, proven technology and human interaction patterns and through architecture mentorship

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years’ experience with 6 years of progressively responsible experience in architecture

  • 2 years of experience in defining and implementing enterprise solutions on cloud platforms

  • Experience in software platform design, cloud native applications, user-interface design and/or systems engineering

  • Experience authoring comprehensive architecture documents, detailed technical requirement documents and high-level design documents

  • Ability to analyze complex issues and identify solutions

  • Experienced in collaborating with global virtual teams is highly desirable

  • Outstanding verbal, written, and visual presentation skills

  • Proven consensus building abilities

  • Proven skills to work effectively across internal functional areas and technology teams

  • Ability to work independently, establishing strategic objectives and project level technical milestones

  • Expertise in architecting commercial-scale cloud systems leveraging IaaS, PaaS or SaaS infrastructure

  • Hands-on ability with several programming languages (e.g. C#, Java, PHP, JavaScript, etc.)

  • Understanding of various database architectures (RDBMS, NoSQL, Document database, etc.)

  • Experience with micro services, SOA, Domain Driven Design, design patterns

  • Ability to think very broadly about the solution, yet also go technical deep

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering

  • Experience with modern software engineering concepts, the software life cycle, and application software development using a variety of technologies

  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communications

  • Experience in migrating large on premise workloads to cloud

  • Experience in managing performance and availability of mission critical applications, with a focus on virtualized environments

  • Experience and understanding of security, SSO and federation technologies as applied cloud infrastructure

  • Experience in defining highly available, disaster recovery solutions
