The candidate will be a highly motivated, multi-disciplined publications engineer. This candidate will ensure meeting overall technical, cost, and schedule of milestones and work with stakeholders in analyzing and evaluating technical data. This candidate will lead team(s) through all stages of publications lifecycle including requirements, design, production, test, deployment, and support. This candidate must be able to plan publications tasks and provide guidance and assistance to team members, including other publications engineers and other engineering groups. This candidate will measure progress and identify corrective actions to address cost and or schedule issues. This position will include extensive interfacing with both internal and external stakeholders as well as customers. This candidate will perform (but will not be limited to) the following tasks: • Responsible for writing and managing multi-volume electronic and paper technical manuals for all Trident Navigation Subsystem tactical equipments. • Collect, review, analyze, and edit engineering information from multiple sources. • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of technical publications principles, concepts, and techniques. • Support proposal activity including, defining technical publications requirements, task breakdown, labor estimating, BOE entry and review and fact-finding. • Train and lead less-experienced publications engineers and technical writers, establishing and controlling task assignments. • Develop verification test plans for use in formal verification testing of Docware deliveries, and assist in verification testing when required. • Respond to customer and engineering review comments via Trouble Failure Reports (TFR) and Program Problem Report (PPR) programs. • Represent LM RMS at meetings with customer representatives. • Ability to draft technical manuals (Description/Operation/Maintenance/Parts List) from source data (design drawings, equipment specifications, vendor data, interviews with engineers) in accordance with technical writing and publishing practices in TD-1121 Trident II Style Guide, and in accordance with customer specifications, requirements, and quality standards. • Demonstrated proficiency in composing electronic technical manuals using X-Metal and VULCAN authoring tools, and create supporting illustrations using Microsoft VISIO graphics software. • Proficient in using the TFR and PPR systems to respond to documentation issues raised by the fleet during tactical use and training. • Ability to train, coordinate, direct, and lead activities of less experienced technical writers. • Experience as technical lead of development and production technical documentation projects. • Must be able to estimate and plan projects. • Must be able to work independently. • Active Secret security clearance.
Basic Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering / English discipline from an accredited college or equivalent experience / combined education with 12 years or more of professional experience or 10 years of professional experience with a related Master’s degree or 7 years of professional experience with a related PhD. • Ability to work with multi-disciplined teams and cross-functional management on technical publications. • Technical knowledge of all current Trident Navigation Subsystem equipments. • Strong technical writing and editing skills.
