CTG PC Technician in Houston, Texas

Title: PC Technician

Computer Task Group (CTG), has an immediate opening for a Network/Communications Support Clerk with our Public Sector client located in downtown Houston for a long term W2 contract.

Location: downtown Houston, Texas

Duration: 12 months, with potential for extension

Tax Terms: W-2 (No C2C or 1099)

Position Profile:

Installs, modifies, and makes repairs to personal computing equipment and software applications, and provides technical assistance and training to system users. Supports end-users in a responsive and service oriented manner. Monitor LAN and WAN to ensure network availability to all system users and may perform necessary maintenance to support network availability.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspects personal computer equipment and reads order sheet listing user requirements to prepare PC equipment for delivery

  • Designs, configures, installs or assists service personnel in installation of hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, disk drives, switches, cabling, etc.

  • Loads specified software packages such as operating systems, MS Office, vendor or third party software suites

  • Establishes and maintains network user domain and mail accounts, the user environment, network directory structure and security

  • Enters commands and observes system functions to verify correct system operations

  • Responds to client inquiries concerning systems operations and diagnoses system hardware, software and operator problems & instructs users in use of equipment, software and manuals

  • Recommends or performs actions to correct software installation or hardware problems

  • Coordinates activities with help desk, network services, or other information systems groups to remedy problems

  • Provides updates, status and completion information to manager, Work Order tracking system, and/ or users via voice mail, e-mail, or in-person communication

  • Replaces or upgrades defective or inadequate software and operating system packages

  • Refers major hardware problems to service personnel for correction and notifies users of possible downtime


  • 3-5 years' experience supporting PC software and hardware

  • Knowledge in all MS operating systems, Windows Server

  • Knowledge in MS office software applications

  • Experience with Networking/Protocols:TCP/IP Protocol; FTP; 802.11G Wireless LAN;

  • 10/100/1000 Ethernet;DNS

  • Must have a professional attitude and appearance and ability to communicate with all levels of management and outside supported entities

  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills, both verbal and written

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Customer service oriented and proficient in scheduling projects,with follow through a must

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation

  • Ability to prioritize tasks without supervision

  • Ability to work on multiple projects with concurrent deadlines In a timely manner

  • Background experience of Microsoft SQL Server
