As an experienced photonic circuit design and test engineer, you will be responsible for the development and engineering of advanced integrated photonic devices and functional communications circuits for high speed digital communications systems. Working with our talented and growing team, you will capture performance requirements, design manufacturable solutions, produce and refine development prototypes and demonstrate they meet customer expectations. Using state of the art test equipment and facilities with access to our global engineering team, you’ll focus initially on pre-production prototypes. Later, you’ll assist in transfer to manufacturing. Leveraging your deep experience, you’ll have significant influence over the technology roadmap, product assembly and test process and have the opportunity for invention and applied research that reflects your strong creativity. Modest travel is expected. Co-design silicon photonic and optoelectronic device designs optimized for low power, manufacturability and high signal speed integrity
Interpret standards documents and high level customer requirements for prototype integrated photonic product designs
Perform hands-on optical and high speed digital testing in our state of the art labs
Plan and implement world-class characterization facilities for present and future generation products
Identify and reduce to practice novel approaches with advantaged product attributes
Maintain currency at the state of the art through access to professional colleagues, collaborations and professional associations
Identify and integrate world-class talent for our growing team and provide technical and professional leadership to them
Communicate effectively with customers, sponsors, team members and suppliers
Develop and efficiently execute test plans
Perform technical analysis, modeling and simulation as required to optimize performance tradeoffs and drive design decisions
Coordinate activities among stakeholders to meet project deliverables and timelines
Required Skills and Experience:
Ph.D. Degree in Electrical Engineering or Optical Physics with a concentration in silicon photonic design or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in silicon photonic design and simulation
2 years industrial experience specifically in silicon photonics or III-V integrated photonic circuits
Experience with at least one silicon photonic foundry and its PDK
Facility with state of the art photonic performance simulation and modeling tools, such as FDTD in 2.5 and 3D representations
Experience with optical subassembly processes and placement/alignment procedures and technology
Track record of invention, publication and industrial leadership at the state of the art via Current facility with commercial modeling and simulation tools or proven ability to design and implement your own tools, as via C-programming or MATLAB.
Demonstrated ability to anticipate and overcome demanding engineering problems
