CTG Construction Planner/Supervisor in Baytown, Texas

Description

CTG is seeking to fill a Construction Planner/Supervisor opening for our client in Baytown, TX.

Location: Baytown, TX

Duration: 12 months

Overview:

The primary purpose of the Construction Planner/Supervisor is to convert Construction Work Packages (CWP) into Installation Work Packages (IWP). Depending on the project size and scope, a Construction Project Planner/Supervisor may work independently or lead a team of planners. The goal of the Construction Project Planner is to ensure that field crews have everything they need to complete their work, including tools, materials and construction specifications.

The secondary purpose of the Construction Planner/Supervisor IV is to perform on-site management, supervision and coordination of field construction activities for assigned CAPEX projects typically with a value between $1 Million and $8 Million This role is a contributor for CAPEX project delivery ensuring the contractors and vendors work in conformance with plans, specifications, schedules and cost estimates.

Duties:

Construction Project Planner Tasks

  • Formulate installation work packages showing sequence of steps, manpower requirements, man-hour requirements and any materials or equipment needed.

  • Develop installation work packages that include some or all the following items:

  • Scope of the job plan

  • Description of the Work Plan

  • Engineering data

  • Estimate of hours

  • List of required tools and equipment

  • List of required resources

  • Unique Safety considerations

  • Comprehensive engineering Data

  • Participate and contribute to Constructability Reviews for projects.

  • Provide input for the development of project schedules in cooperation with the construction engineers and planners.

  • Clarification of installation work packages with construction contractors.

Construction Supervisor Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for monitoring, managing, and controlling the field progress, schedule adherence, cost compliance, and quality activities of all field executed work by contractors to meet the Project Management requirements and Standards & Guidelines.

  • Remain knowledgeable of safety policies and procedures and perform assigned duties in a safe manner and play an active role in the development of the safety culture on the project, making safety a natural part of all work performed by complying with established safety policies and procedures.

  • Maintain quality of all work in accordance with the standards as specified in the design documents by monitoring the performance and overall progress of construction inspections in adherence to the field quality assurance program.

  • Analyze situations, identify and forecast pertinent problems and evaluate realistic options; and recommend/implement appropriate course of action.

  • Prepare Daily Construction Reports (DCR's) and coordinate weekly update meetings with Contractors.

  • Confirm that daily and weekly short-range planning is maintained.

  • Control change/scope creep, ensuring that all scope changes are quickly and properly documented and that change orders are approved prior to the performance of work.

Skills:

  • Piping design, fabrication, QC and installation knowledge (standards, codes, NDE (nondestructive examination), etc.) required.

  • Pressure vessel design, fabrication, RBI (risk based inspection) and installation knowledge (standards, codes, NDE (nondestructive examination), etc.) required.

  • Scaffolding and insulation installation experience.

  • Leadership skills including conflict resolution.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Detail oriented with the ability to plan and manage multiple tasks/projects.

  • Committed to safety and quality and the ability to spread that among other employees.

  • Knowledge of estimating, planning, scheduling, cost control and contracting.

  • Communication skills both verbally and in writing with multi-cultural and multi-location teams involving company leaders, superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the company.

  • Effective computer skills; Microsoft Office Software, and other Company and discipline specific software applications.

  • Excellent English skills both written and oral.

  • Spanish language skills desirable.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.

  • Possess an understanding of CAPEX business principles and procedures with experience in construction engineering, construction cost estimating and construction management.

  • Basic understanding project scheduling and estimating techniques.

  • Project Execution experience in different Contract Models and Subcontracts.

  • General business knowledge encompassing basics in all areas of finance, contract negotiations, personnel, etc.

Education:

  • A High School Diploma with equivalent of 11 years of construction experience as a journeyman tradesperson

  • or an Associate degree with a minimum of 7 years of construction experience

  • or a BS (University) degree in Engineering or Construction Management with a minimum of 3 years experience

  • or a MS BS (University) degree in Engineering or Construction Management with a minimum of 2 years experience managing or supervising technical, engineering, construction teams in execution of investment projects.

Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.
