CTG is currently assisting one of its premiere clients in Durham, NC in staffing an IT Computer Operator for a weekend/day shift (Friday-Sunday, 6am-6pm).

Location: Durham, NC

Duration: 6 month, contract-to-hire

Misc: This is a weekend, Friday-Sunday, 6am-6pm shift (3x12)

Under general supervision, execute schedule work and monitor Data Center Infrastructure health and availability of the production/development environment by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned

  • Monitoring of Data Center systems and network infrastructure through use of Data Center monitoring tools.

  • Responsible for managing relevant tickets in the ticketing system.

  • Manage/escalate problems to resolution.

  • Maintaining logs and records, and report generation as required.

  • Maintaining on-call lists and contacting support teams and resources as required.

  • Performing all related server room functions as required; such as:

  • Mounting magnetic tapes

  • Monitoring Data Centers, shipping and receiving

  • Monitoring weather conditions at both Data Center locations

  • Participation and execution of personnel training activities required in the support of the Data Center environment.

  • Reviews all existing and submitted production documentation to ensure that such documentation is complete, accurate and adheres to standard format. Work collaboratively with other IT departments to collect, confirm and update documents such as SLA’s, SOP’s and other departmental programs and procedures to ensure compliance.

  • Perform other duties as assigned


Ability to:

  • Operate a personal computer with good working knowledge of MS Office Suite, and additional software/application skills helpful such as MVS, HP, and Unisys Mainframes, InfoMan & OPCON.

  • Possess base knowledge/experience of data center operations, server, mainframe, and network infrastructure.

  • Apply principles, practices, methods and techniques of time management, computerized database management and common IT terminology.

  • To work well under pressure and successfully manage multiple tasks while allocating time and resources to meet service level indicator requirements.

  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate well both orally and in writing. This pertains to all levels of employees, internal/external clients, and vendors.

  • Must work well in a dynamic environment.

  • Analyze, document and record management problems, reach sound conclusions and recommend improved procedures and processes; organize work, set priorities, provide advice and support to meet document management needs; exercise sound judgment and initiative within established guidelines; prepare clear, concise and accurate reports and other written material; establish and maintain effective working relationships with department managers/supervisors, staff and others encountered in the course of work.

  • Must be willing to work other shifts to cover for vacations, emergencies, etc.

  • Must show initiative, and have a desire to learn and expand their knowledge of technology and skillset.
